Top 10 Tuesday: Top 10 2011 Fantasy Football Running Backs

By: Victor Olowojoba

10. Michael Turner

Turner is an absolute beast scoring at least 10 rushing touchdowns in the last 3 seasons. He is the main running on the Falcons with no one behind him as a threat to take his position unlike many running backs in the league. I do not expect anything less than 1,000 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns as he is a model of consistency.

9. Maurice Jones-Drew

MJD plays bigger than his size (5-7, 208) and he is one of the hardest to tackle running backs in the league. He had a down year when it comes to touchdowns last year only scoring 5 after not scoring less than 9 in a season his whole career. The yards will always be there for MJD, but I have him this low on the list because he may not get the TDs.

8. Ray Rice

Another short guy by stature but plays big on the field, Rice is set to have a great season. He will not have Willis McGahee taking carries away from him and the offense looks to be more explosive this year. Personally I do not like Ray Rice for my fantasy team but I would not go against you taking him in the first round as running back is a very thin position this year.

7. Darren McFadden

Run DMC had a breakout year last year after posting 1,157 yards rushing and 7 rushing touchdowns. I look for him to build on last year and I think the presence of Michael Bush only helps McFadden stay healthier so he can play the whole season.

6. Rashard Mendenhall

Mendenhall had over 1,200 yards rushing and 13 tds last year for the run heavy Steeler team that went to the Super Bowl. That was Mendenhall’s first year as the lone full time starter. This year Mike Tomlin has full trust in Mendenhall and I think he’ll reach his full potential this year.

5. LeSean McCoy

McCoy had 1,000 yards rushing and 7 rushing tds last year. That isn’t bad by any means but what makes McCoy so valuable is his receiving. He caught 78 passes last year which was 1st for receptions by a running back. In the Eagles’ offense he should rack up plenty of fantasy points both rushing and receiving.

4. Jamaal Charles

Charles had a great year last year as the Chiefs suprised many people and were very competitive. They may be some concrn with Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster itching for carries but there’s no doubt that Charles is the number 1 running back after rushing for more than 1,000 yards last year. Feel free to take him in the first round.

3. Arian Foster

Foster suprised alot of people last year proving that he could handle the load as a number 1 NFL running back. He amassed over 1,600 rushing yards which led the league last year. He led all fantasy players in fantasy points and solidified himself as a top 5 running back in fantasy leagues this year.

2. Chris Johnson

CJ1k had an ok year last year compared to what he did 2 years ago when he ran for over 2,000 yards. He was still a top 5 fantasy running back and he should be one of the top 2 picks taken without a question. Lets just hope he doesn’t hold out.

1. Adrian Peterson

AP is the best running back in football whether it be fantasy or real life. He should be the first player taken in every draft worldwide. He is a beast and with the Vikings having a suspect offense this year I expect peterson to have a great year. I expect nothing less than 1,500 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns.
