Lakers Prevail In OT Against Celts, 88-87

The Lakers defeated the Celtics thursday night, 88-87, in front of a sell out crowd at the TD Banknorth Garden. The game was close from start to finish and came down to the wire but the Lakers prevailed over their arch rivals in OT.

Kobe Bryant missed a shot with 1:29 to go in OT which would have put the Lakers up, but was tipped in by Andrew Bynum, one of his seven offensive rebounds. After failed attempts by Bryant and Garnett to score, the Celtics had one last chance to win the game down one with seven seconds left. Paul Pierce missed his signature jump shot from the corner of the free throw line. Ray Allen came up with the rebound but an attempted put back was blocked by Pau Gasol giving the Lakers the win.

Ray Allen led the Celts in scoring with 22 points on 9-20 shooting. Paul Pierce contributed a double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while dishing out seven assists. Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett were the only other Celtics to score in double figures, scoring 14 and 12 respectively. Garnett also grabbed 10 rebounds but had an off shooting night shooting just 6-23 from the field.

Kobe Bryant once again led the Lakers with 27 points five rebounds and four assists. Pau Gasol poured in 25 points and grabbed 14 boards while Andrew Bynum also had a double double with 16 points and 17 rebounds.
