Love it or Hate it?
Palazzo Pants:
The Italian word “palazzo,” means “palace”—perhaps to indicate how palatially wide the leg is.
For most of our parents, they will recall all the horror stories about palazzo pants in the 70’s. Perhaps we will shed the same light 40 years from now too because the palazzo look is here!
This time around palazzo are being done in breezy, feathered hues with muted floral prints and lots of BOLD. These pants must be styled appropriately given that they completely envelope the lower-half of the woman’s body.
I think this look isn’t for everyone but for the daring dresser, the fierce fashionista and the all our artsy, these pants have the potential to be a great deal of fun. Even some celebrities have dared to wear this look.
The key to styling these pants is to accentuate the waist, as you see in the photo to the right— belt it OUT! A v-neck, tucked in will help draw the eye down to the pant and give the torso an elongated look. To jazz up the neckline spring for a chunky wood or bead necklace with a pop of color- like Blake Lively or go neutral to be easier on the eyes:) As for shoes, it is ALL about wedges and sky-high stilettos to nail this look. We know the glory a wedge can do for us in jeans, but just imagine the hidden brilliance when paired with extra-wide pants!
I particularly like this look for the fall. I can envision New Yorkers and New Englanders ( who are brave enough) running around the city, hurried, with their Starbucks latte’, palazzo pants blowing in the wind styled with adorable crop jackets and layered with funky belts and scarves.
How would you style your palazzo’s? Or do you just LOVE to HATE this look?
